The world's most visited (and perhaps famous) museum is located in Paris. But why so many people go? Find out.

The Louvre Museum is one of the world's largest museums and a historic monument. A central landmark of Paris, France, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine. Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 60,600 square metres.
A must visit museum if you happen to stop by the beautiful city of Paris.
The use of cameras and video recorders is permitted inside. Use of flashes is forbidden.
The Louvre is the world's most visited museum, and received more than 9.7 million visitors in 2012.
The Louvre is owned by the French government; however, since the 1990s it has become more independent.
The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum.

The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments
